Me and My Research
My academic journey, what I work on, and the posters behind my papers
I am Rishabh Mondal (ঋষভ মণ্ডল), a Ph.D. scholar who teaches machines to watch the Earth. This page is a quick tour of who I am and the research I present at conferences.
My Journey
- B.Tech (2021) in Computer Science and Engineering, The Neotia University, Kolkata.
- M.Tech (2023) in Information Technology, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, under the guidance of Dr. Prasun Ghosal.
- Ph.D. (ongoing) at the Sustainability Lab, IIT Gandhinagar, supervised by Prof. Nipun Batra.
Research Interests
Earth Observation · Computer Vision
My Research, in Four Posters
1. SentinelKilnDB (NeurIPS 2025, Datasets & Benchmarks) Accepted
A large-scale dataset and benchmark for oriented brick-kiln detection across South Asia: 97,648 boxes over 114,300 Sentinel-2 patches spanning India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, with benchmarks for in-region detection, out-of-region generalization, temporal shift, and super-resolution.
2. FlowSat (BMVC 2026) Accepted
A flow-matching Diffusion Transformer for satellite image generation with geometry-aware metadata conditioning: location on the sphere, dates encoded cyclically, and a zero-initialised AdaLN graft that preserves the pretrained prior. Best FID and CLIP on fMoW-RGB with only 20 Euler steps.
3. From Mandates to Measurable Impact (AAAI 2027) Submitted
Satellite-based accountability for cleaner brick kilns: a VLM jointly reads 13 years of imagery per site to reconstruct every kiln’s lifecycle across Bangladesh, covering technology conversions, demolitions, emissions, siting compliance, and the 56.5 million people living within 2 km of a violating kiln.
4. Training-Free Concept Bottlenecks (Ongoing Work)
Certifying which visual concepts are truly present in satellite scenes using a frozen, open VLM as the only detector. Metric visual witness search with complete-search calibration gives every certificate a per-concept false-positive guarantee.
I am always happy to work with students passionate about computer vision and Earth observation. See the Project with me tab on my homepage, or write to me at rishabh.mondal@iitgn.ac.in.
